The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is responsible for planning and managing of a wide range of human resources functions.  This position will build upon the Institute’s current programs and strategies, and provide leadership, guidance and professional expertise on matters related to human resources and organizational development.  This position will develop and implement appropriate services, policies, and programs for the organization and includes overseeing talent acquisition, career development, succession planning, retention, training, leadership development, compensation and benefits.  Requires expertise in benefit plan design and analysis, familiarity with immigration and Visa programs, knowledge of employment law and emerging trends in staff development and retention. 

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Direct and coach a three person team to provide effective human resources support to over 400 employees and scholars, both foreign and domestic, while establishing strong working relationships and supporting the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Coordinate the functional planning and execution of annual human resources processes including goal setting, performance assessment/management, promotion decisions, compensation planning, and talent management.
  • Coach and counsel leaders at all levels through key organizational and people decisions including leadership placement, organizational design, risk and regulatory considerations, and investigations/disciplinary actions.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers from across the Institute to establish strategies to build the talent pipeline and attract qualified and diverse candidates and improve succession planning strategies. Assist hiring managers in the development of job descriptions, organize and participate in senior staff searches for the institution. Identify and organize training and development opportunities for staff. 
  • Proactively apply knowledge of new and emerging laws and regulations to institutional policies and procedures to remain in compliance. Serve as the Title IX Coordinator on behalf of the Institute and provide oversight of the J-1 Scholar and ancillary Visa program.
  • Make recommendations on new policy development to enhance work environment and ensure policies and procedures are comprehensive, up-to-date and in compliance with Federal and state laws.
  • Leverage current HRIS technologies to deliver efficiencies within the human resources function and throughout the organization.
  • Oversee the design and administration of all compensation and benefit programs, including the fiscal and operational management of the self-insured medical plan.
  • Serve as the secretary on behalf of the Institute’s Committee on Diversity.  Develop, implement and monitor programs that promote diversity within the organization, including trainings and initiatives to create and foster an open and inclusive environment. 
  • Interact with the Board of Trustees in regards to any human resources,executive compensation or organizational activities, on an as needed basis.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required, Master’s Degree strongly prefer
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of HR Business Partner/Generalist experience across a range of competencies and experience managing teams.
  • Excellent judgment, grounded in a wide range of previous HR experiences, as well as strong interpersonal, communication, and consensus building skills required in order to oversee practical, solution-driven initiatives and effectively work with all levels.
  • Ability to be a key strategic partner to with senior management on organizational development, talent, and human resources issues.
